Mini Post

The artist I chose is Micah Bazant, they are a trans visual artist who works with social justice movements to imagine a world where all is right. They create art that is inspired by struggles and institutionalized discrimination that exists in our society. They focus on issues caused by white supremacy, patriarchy, ableism and gender binary.

I chose this picture because it speaks to the islamophobic environment that was heightened after the 2016 elections. Many folks identified as Muslims were harassed and assaulted merely for their religious beliefs. This piece of art serves as an offering to young individuals who are resisting the system, and who teach us every day how to love and be allies of other communities. This piece shows us the importance of individuals of other communities to support and uplift each other. Their work has always inspired me to continue working and advocating on social justice issues. Adding the personal and artistic twist to these issues really does attract the eye to the message embedded in them. It opened up my mind to the ways art is inherently political.
