Tatyana Fazlaliz is a female artist from Oklahoma City currently residing in Brooklyn. She has been creating empowering works of art to represent women of color and the struggles they face with on a daily basis. She will be releasing an upcoming book named "Stop Telling Women to Smile: Stories of Street Harassment and How We're Taking Back Our Power," which will be published on February 4th, 2020. In the book, along with the street artwork, she tackles the much too common issue of sexual harassment that women encounter on a daily basis. Her book allows for our generation to gain a deeper insight of the experiences that women have gone through. It allows for the awareness and conversation of harassment to continue just as the #MeToo movement have done.
STWTS has been ongoing since 2012 where the artist will continue to provide awareness of women dealing with street harassment that still portrays an issue today in 2020. She has sat down with women of different cultural backgrounds to listen to their own unique story of street harassment. She then turned their stories into a powerful statement through art right where the issue occurs. This allows for everyone to see how common street harassment is in hopes to positively change and provide impact to how women are treated. It is empowering to see a woman of color express the harassment issue in the heart and soul of where it occurs, especially being a student in the city.
