Female Artist- Nastya Ptichek
Nastya Ptichek is a female artist, originally from Ukraine, who uses famous paintings to interpret modern day society. Her artwork is based on a combination of classical paintings embedded with forms of online communication. She started a collection called "Emoji-Nation" which ranged from various social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The collection was a five part series that explained how social media has impacted society and changed over the years. Ptichek also wanted to present the way we communicate with each other through the paintings. She also wanted to show how the way we express ourselves has evolved through the years.
In the second part of her series, Ptichek overlaps online symbols over paintings by Edward Hopper. One of her paintings shows a man expressing his love with a kissing face emoji, while the woman next to him expresses with uncertainty as we can see with the three dots above her head to depict she is still typing. Some of her paintings tend to include a "like" button above a persons head and/or a "add friend" button to show how the means of online communication has taken over majority of our lives. The series mostly reflects on how real life emotions are set up to be online. Many of her work also includes placings error messages on renaissance paintings to add humor to the paintings and to touch base on how they would have responded to one another digitally. Ptichek's work is mainly based on how we interact and the way social media has changed and influenced our interactions.
